In a more enlightened society, a last will and testament would allow one to bequeath body regions and/or specific organs to designated recipients

You can designate recipients, it's just that your choices are significantly truncated; organ donation for medical/research reasons, and that seems to be about it. I wonder if that has ever been an accepted cultural practice....such as specifying who gets to keep relics.
