No truly enlightened Scottsman?
I've seen very little research in religious studies on this area of lineage sovereignty, and how that influences the diffusion of teachings/techniques and so on. Would be interesting to see more of that, especially given most traditions are reliant on neo-liberal economic model.

In Catholicism, it's the whole child abuse scandal. In Islam, it's the craziness around the Ummah vs. various secular states with mostly-Muslim populations, and so on. Which side are your religious leaders on in those struggles? Plus the whole Ataturk movement. It's everywhere.
