Interesting point. Once you know you’re mad, bad, strange and silly in a bunch of ways, what do you do with it? There a practical things a person might do, but unfortunately the dominant cultural frame is pretty lousy in this area. I think you’re right about art as a option

Pagan festivals were a way to express that madness in ancient times. But then Roman Christianity happened. Burning man is a modern version of the festivals. But day-to-day I don't see much of a choice except art. Or finding a tribe that shares your madness.

I think there is a place for collective rites — normalisation & expression in a group — but I think we can do much better than expressions of neurotic release, although that's probably better than suppression. Day-to-day, people need heuristics to relate to their own experience.
