Well, plenty of kagyus were/are just as filthy as Soggy, so you can hold on to that dissonance. IIRC the phrases were first written down by Wangchuk Dorje, in one of his manuals. WD taught Taranatha, a major figure in the Shangpa lineage, to which they're commonly attributed.
