Contemplative fieldnotes:
After talking w/ @spacecrone about trauma, it occurred to me that I neglected to consider which meditation teachers offer techniques & framings conducive to resolving trauma without presenting/selling it as the main focus of the practice.

I have my own thoughts/framing for this stuff, but I’d like to hear what more experienced meditators think about this. Please & thank you.

Meditating with trauma is an entirely different process than without. There can be no "diving straight in" type meditations. Instead, careful "pendulation" or "titration" is the key. It's more like tip-toeing in. Otherwise it's very easy to retraumatize yourself.

Here referring to serious, clinically diagnosable trauma - such as PTSD - as opposed to the broader use of ‘trauma’ in the psychological discourse? I’ve heard some trauma specialists claim that we’re all traumatised in some way, which stretches that definition (irresponsibly?).

Definitely check out the book Trauma-Sensitive Mindfulness, by David Treleaven with Willoughby Britton.

Trauma is so important that I feel obligated to say most dharma teachers including myself don't know fuck-all about trauma or how to treat it, and we must in good conscience refer trauma survivors to dedicated professionals who understand trauma and how to address it.
