Some of my favourite practitioners - past and present - are those who went through this same process but still sincerely carry out a rôle in that milieu, because it’s somehow right for them. Sometimes they’re fringe characters, other times they’re pretty central to their sangha.

What’s even funnier is when a person gets the joke early on, and then starts behaving in ways that look non-ironically more religiousy or identity driven, even though they have to internal drive to identify as this or that. I know more than one full-time practitioner like that.
