I mention this because I also think your model thing can be seen in autistics, also. Some use their special interest as a model of order in a world of social chaos. Some people develop highly comprehensive and complex world models which can lead to remarkable insights.
This sounds a lot like many autistic people’s accounts of sensory overload and sensitivity.
