Also, extra points to the people who catch the oblique Dune reference in the newsletter today.

So far, 27 people have died in the Harris County Jail this year. That’s the highest death toll since at least 2000.
The overcrowding is so bad that people awaiting trial are locked up an average of 199 days. That’s about *six months.*

Spacecraft death is so grim when they have a Twitter account.

My power’s really low, so this may be the last image I can send. Don’t worry about me though: my time here has been both productive and serene. If I can keep talking to my mission team, I will – but I’ll be signing off here soon. Thanks for staying with me.

Red Crew has finished up their work at the pad! They tightened the bolts on a leaky valve and are leaving the pad now. Fingers crossed we can get a move on now!

"torque the packing nuts"
Quote Tweet
We have stopped flow of liquid hydrogen to the core stage due to an intermittent leak on the replenish valve. Teams are discussing a plan to send out the 'red crew' to the pad to torque packing nuts at the base of the mobile launcher.

A reminder that the space industry competes with big tech for talent on a regular basis. I'm sure Maxar isn't the only company looking to hire as popular tech companies shed employees.
Quote Tweet
Tweeps - first I’m sorry if you lose your job tomorrow. That said, my team at Maxar is hiring for our telemetry group (firehouse for space tweets). Hit me up and we can get you interviewed as quick as you’d like. Team is fully remote.

The new space age is here. We are seeing new commercial models and technologies pioneering a wide range of new satellites services and space-based activities. To build on this success and plan for the next, we are creating the Space Bureau at the FCC.

A good time to revisit this tweet after SpaceX claimed yesterday marked their "100th launch overall" from SLC-40. It was, without question, the 101st unless you omit the CRS-7 launch failure, which you shouldn't.
Quote Tweet
Yet again SpaceX ignoring one of their own launches just because it was a failure. Mentioned on stream this is the 99th launch by them from SLC-40 when in reality it is the 100th. They obviously didn't count CRS-7...
