China censored Ireland's song so now they've been banned from broadcasting the whole Eurovision show. Understandable - it's one the most LGBT friendly international events out there & censoring those parts is completely against its inclusive spirithttps://www.buzz.ie/news/china-eurovision-ireland-gay-romance-ryan-oshaughnessy-284598?utm_source=twitter&utm_campaign=article&utm_medium=web …

at the same time though, isn't it hypocritical to censor someone because they censored something?

no. don't get me wrong, I support the decision, but by banning them from showing it, aren't they just imposing their own form of cencorship. I'm not critisising their decision, it just seems like a very shotgun-esque approach

Except it isn't censorship. Refusing someone the use of your event due their refusal to honor its spirit and show it properly is not the same as that person not allowing parts of it they don't like to be shown to the public. So huge a difference as to be incomparable, really.

Yeah okay. But cutting off such a pro LGBT event from such an anti-LGBT country won't help the cultural divide I don't think. I see why they did it, I just don't think it was the correct move.

I'm with Gav here. If you put on a show, touring with some other bands, and some venue said "We want your show, but you have to cut the second act because the frontman is gay" you are TOTALLY reasonable to tell them to go fuck themselves and not do the show.
