And being older does not instantly mean that someone is wiser or more experienced! "Elders" is imho pretty meaningless. Seek out those who have wise things to say, regardless of age.

I'm a nurse specialized in geriatric patients. A lot of them are experienced and wise and a lot of them are people who stayed inside their comfort zone for their entire lives, which just happens to have lasted longer than mine. Old ≠wise, young ≠ inexperienced, automatically.

At some point you have to stop listening and just act. Avoid unrecoverable mistakes ("Do not stare into laser with remaining eye"). Nothing wrong with trying to change things; just make different mistakes than those before you. And yeah, the 'snowflake' thing is unhelpful BS.
