My interpretation of the article was that he's not so much criticising the ideals of manliness such as bravery, self sacrifice etc but rather criticising the obligations men are forced to feel towards conforming to only one way of being
But I’ve yet to see any evidence that rigid gender roles are a widespread problem. I say this as a 120 pound LGBT post-millennial who doesn’t fit into a traditionally masculine role.
Maybe some guys feel restricted by masculinity, but how many compared to the ones who feel like they CAN’T be traditionally masculine anymore?
