I think it's very hard to find many stable economies, the UK is about to lose the NHS due to poor economy. If the UK started making large donations to other countries because they were less fortunate, the UK would then become that less fortunate country.

Not exactly. Asking a country to give to a poorer one would disrupt it's economy/wealth. Asking a rich person to give to the poor would eventually make them poor. My whole point is that you can't expect rich people to give to the poor just because they should.

There is a lot of difference though granted because not every rich person abused or exploited someone else to get as rich as they are. Not the best comparison but the concept stands.

You could ask Jeff Bezos to give up 99.9% of his wealth and he'd still be richer than the vast majority of people.

As I said in the other tweet, it’s great when they do make donations but you can’t really guilt trip people into donating because then everyone would be expected to and it’d set an awful precedent.

Because then someone who’s considerably poorer than you could start constantly asking you to give money. What makes it awful is people’s perception of who’s rich and who isn’t. Someone with nothing might think that someone just getting by is rich.

There's not much comparison between someone just getting by and someone with more wealth than it's physically possible to earn via labour alone.

To you, maybe not. To someone with nothing there may be. It's largely about perception and who is perceived to be rich and like many things. That's subjective to a lot of people.

This comparison is terrible. Someone at the 'getting by' level giving their money away then can't afford to get by anymore. Billionaires could give away 90% of their money and still never again need to worry about getting by.

In our perception yes. To someone in much more dire circumstances it might not be. Someone being rich can be subjective and perceived by many different people. I just don't think we can expect people to be obliged to give away their money.

Just because you may have a lot of money or more than someone else, doesn't mean you're any more obliged to give it away than they are. It'd definitely be a good thing to help the less fortunate but you shouldn't be pressured or guilted into it.
