Depends how you consume the news to be fair. The papers over here (England) and I'm sure in Ireland as well are almost as bad as the "entertainment news" in America...

From 1949 to 1987 the US had The Fairness Doctrine which mandated that TV news had to show balanced viewpoints on topics until Reagan revoked it. Since then the US TV news has been a toxic wasteland with only profit in mind
