I suggest trying mainline Shin Megami Tensei if that interests you. Shin Megami Tensei IV (on the 3DS) or SMTIII Nocturne on the PS2 are great places to start there. Or you could just wait for SMTV on Switch.

It is acctualy so much more than just quirky anime kids. This is a game that tackles politics on atleast a country scale and discusses some serious issues like self worth and sexual abuse to name a few.

Cool, but the style & 'vibe' still makes it impossible for me to engage with it on any emotional level.

You can't deny 4 was a great mystery tho. Considering that (no spoilers) EVERY named character is a suspect, it really makes you pay attention ^^

I remember you recently mentioning on podquisitoon that you thought the Japanese zeitgeist had a thing for pop-jazz music; it and the series’ soundtracks are testament to that and worth checking out. As for the gameplay, jrpg meets scooby doo; character driven part is the hook.

It's not for everyone, and that's cool. Least you gave it a look with videos before buying it and being more disappointed. I've enjoyed my time and I'm not even halfway through yet.
