Horror games are often better when they don't explain all their strangeness & metaphors. eg: Silent Hill is always terrifying due to the sense of the unknown, but how many games immediately lose their fear factor when we find out it's a cult, secret lab, nightmare etc etc

Probably one of the most unsettling things for me in any horror game was in SH3 where the guy says "You see them as monsters?" and just leaves you to wonder WTF

hmmm counter argument to this: silent hill 3 has a cult, but the absolute vivid and horrifying imagery alone constitutes it as a great horror title even though it explains the internal logic of the world c: (I say that as a big fan of the silent hill trilogy :D )

The problem with SH is that the fandom figure it out some sort of laws within the game world...and if one game deviate from it...the fandom get really angry...

To be fair, the cult in Silent Hill falls to the wayside after 3. After that game, Silent Hill is just that incredibly scary town that loves to drag people with dark secrets to itself to either kill them or force them to face their demons. Literally.

SH2 is the quintessential Silent Hill game.

But even in the first game they don’t explain everything about the town and it’s effects on people. It why I love SH 4 even with the explanation. As long as you leave enough in the unknown you have my attention.

Reminds me of outlast. Up until the elevator ride down to the last area irs creepy and intimidating. The last area proper ruins everything the game was building to and leaves off on a terrible note.

Absolutely. Bad, bad ending

Probably get asked this a bunch, but since you brought up Silent Hill, have you considered revisiting old games for music inspiration and/or doing songs for classics such as Silent Hill or the many other classic titles from early nintendo, sega, and playstation years?
