It'd of course be a lie to say I never take the audience's response into account when making stuff tho. For example with the Zelda song I really wanted to make something that'd bring Zelda fans joy - but it still had to please my ears first & foremost :D

I think most of the times someone says this, they're actually trying to say "I would have liked this more, if...". Although, obviously, people can be assholes about it.

It's weird, as a critic myself I think there's totally a right to criticize a work, but I feel like there's a line between that and actually telling an artist, "You should have done this differently."

Criticism is one thing, but telling someone their artistic vision is flawed seems a bit out of place in most scenarios.
