Patriotism is such a strange concept to me in how it inspires the same dogmatic reverence in people who define it in very different ways.

I'd disagree mostly. I think it has hit levels that are just too much, but pride in one's country has been a net benefit to civilization

I think it needs to be justified, and that's where it gets tricky because that has VERY different meanings to different people
