Personally I'd dump the whole numerical scoring thing and just go with what I'd do with my money because that's what reviews are for; guiding purchasing decisions! But ofc you right when it comes to those who prefer numerics

That's precisely what ACG does. His reviews ultimately revolve around what you should do with your money regarding a certain game.

What games you've enjoyed that's been polar opposites? So perfect in one, and abysmal in the other?

Not Gavin, but for me, 2 recent examples of this are Battlefield V and Fire Emblem: Three Houses. BFV is a damn good looking game from a technical standpoint, especially with RTX enabled (played it on PC). Problem is that the game itself isn’t great. 1/?

Perhaps one for "Crunch" for the AAA games.

I’m starting to consider rating games in this fashion. I do sometimes give games scores and I believe now that separating the technical score and the artistic one will allow me to better articulate how I feel about a game. Thanks for the idea Gavin!

I'm not sure that's true. Frequently an excess of one can help overcome for a deficiency in another. The numerical score is just a way to reflect how valuable to you your experience with the game was and that's taking everything into consideration.

If I were to go that deep, I'd go for four- "Technical", "Creative", "Gameplay", and "Fun", with Fun always being an unscored, written out section. A game can be perfect in the first three and still get hammered on the last one- for good or bad reasons!

Vaguely familiar here. I want to say it was GamePro, but there're literal decades of memory fog on that one.
