There are certainly rural areas here with extreme accents, like in every country.
But it would have been really easy to find some Irish actors and just soften the accents instead of the Darby O'Gill meets Lucky Charms Leprechaun monstrosities in this movie lol

Even if it were true, the solution would be subtitles (which really should be in *every* film, regardless of accents, in theatres or at home for accessibility reasons), not butchering the accents you're going for.
