I often feel it's generally healthier not to idolize creators. It's possible to love & enjoy someone's work without putting your emotions & personal stakes into this stranger you've never met. You then avoid feeling hurt or betrayed when they fuck up or turn out to be a dickhead

I don't love you, Gavin... you are pretty fucking rad, though!

It's hard on the creator side too, I imagine. Generations of stars have shown that lasting appeal is in part inspired by the cult of personality, the want of fans to indulge. Managing to not "overtly hook people" is as hard as fans resisting "commitment" to a performer.

*quietly looks at the blocked account list where two names are one person* Yep, some people're weird.

I know what you mean... I have a favourite tattooer whom I kinda idolized for his inspirational influence - and was a bit scared because of this exact reason before I got tattooed by him :D Gladly turned out to be a pretty nice, down-to-earth person, but this can indeed go wrong

So true! I used to look up to you until you started throwing rocks at my car from the side of road. Even went as far as to make eye contact with me as I was driving by. Never idolize anyone!

But it's like the GAN problem. It's practically the creator's business model to make us unreasonably attached to their personality.
