Yeah I'd understand the anger if there were some outstanding history of african americans brutally oppressing the irish but uh, there's not.

I think it boils down to a serious misunderstanding about what cultural appropriation is and the contexts surrounding it. Simply being influenced by or homaging another culture is not nearly enough to qualify since that's just cultural exchange.

In my experience, the only people that scream about "cultural appropriation" aren't part of the culture that they're trying to "defend."

Couldn't agree more! This is way better than the tv writer who wanted to do a gráinne mhaol tv series, but wouldn't listen to people asking her not to call her grace. Appreciation and respect for culture is always welcomed
