I feel it's not healthy to put creators on a pedestal (self included). Being good at making things doesn't make them a great person, they are as flawed & dysfunctional as everyone. You can avoid a lot of disappointment by being a fan of someone's work without idolizing them :)

I think I've gotten to that point in life where I can recognize flaws and things that make me cringe from creators, but can separate them from their art and enjoy the hell out of it.

Totally agree. Although it was a bit disappointing to find out my favorite youtuber hated black people.

That is about as well as that dilemma can be explained... Good job. Creators often hand out keys to folks lives. Keys the creator never imagined and folks want them to put it on their keyring.

I think you summed this up on JimQ with something like “Don’t meet me in real life, I’m an asshole”. Wise words, even if not the ones we want to hear.

Well said, man. It's always important to know that behind the creation we're all humans capable of making mistakes, and recognize when they were in the wrong despite all the respect and adoring you may have for them. If only more people were willing to consider that.

i.e. they're human. :) Personally, I go by their socials and interviews. Often I say "Yeah, I'd enjoy haning out with them, they seem cool people." Sometimes not. Whether or not such happens, well... whose to say. Of the celebs I have met... not been disappointed once... so far.
