Of course it's only natural to feel that connection to a creator when their art affects you deeply, I get it :) It's just healthier not to expect too much personally from a creator, because they're human beings and have a million ways to let you down, even when trying not to

So true. I like to use the Doom movie to explain how this works. I went to that movie fully expecting it to be terrible. It was, in fact, terrible, but I loved it anyway because it was still better than I expected.

Have you listened to Devin Townsend's podcasts for the making of his first 5 or so records? He's really honest, holds nothing back about how fucked up and flawed he was. Actually provides fascinating insight on those albums and cast then in a different light

While this is def true, I feel there is a difference between idolizing someone and finďing someone sympathetic and wanting to grab a drink and have a nice talk with them. I'm sure you have your flaws, but I'd still love to meet you in person and buy you a whiskey or something!

That mental separation is the only reason I can listen to some of the bands I do. I understand the person singing may be a shit person, but their music still speaks to me. Just because I like them, they don't magically become the best person in the world.

I hear your gospel Music Jesus and I will listen! (For real though, I never was a fan of idolising people. I never understand why people build statues of other people for an other purpose then tearing them down.

Very true. But, a skilled creator does deserve a high five for a job well done. Yeah most do it for the love of the art, but still; y'all deserve your earned praise, and some money never hurts.
