Sadly my audience is split. If I make a metal/rock song I get complaints asking for me to do a different genre. I do a different genre, then get complaints that it’s not rock/metal lol

Exactly, variety may split people but ultimately gives you longevity less channel burn out if they never know what your bringing next

At the end of the day if the musician is good it doesn't matter if they are playing the spoons and a bucket - they will still make it sound good - most people I listen to do folk and metal, or similar, and it works because they manage to bring something of each to the other.

There’s an argument to be made for the other side too unfortunately. They can not get used to it & the ones that subbed for a single genre can grow bored of the channel & leave. It’s possible that Gav lost those fans but picked up subs that are interested in all genres over time.

It’s POSSIBLE that if you stuck to one rock genre since the beginning your channel would be bigger now. I know exactly what the concerns are about mental health/creativity to that and of course you should do what make YOU happy above all else, but that’s my two cents
