For those unaware, Cromwell was the head of the British invasion here which lead to hundreds of years of oppression, cultural annihalation and genocide. The article is referencing an attitude among some historically unaware folks who feel Ireland are 'ungrateful' towards England

I remember in my (English) school we did history lessons on Oliver Cromwell, and we had to write an essay about whether he's a hero or a villain. I could be misremembering, but I'm fairly sure they didn't say a damn thing about what he did in Ireland

Wow. He is basically Sauron to us lol

Soooo He's similiar to Napoleon? Hated almost everywhere, but loved and taught as a hero in Poland (there's even an verse about him in national Anthem). Or Piłsudski, hero who freed Poland from Russia, Germany and Austria, but murdering opposition is silenced
-
Not quite, Napoleon didn’t commit what would today be considered genocide after all
