Fuck companies who overwork their staff. I once worked for a now defunct record store chain who used to, through coercion & phrases like 'Not letting the team down', make us work sometimes up to 18-19 consecutive days. Staff morale got so low that about 2 thirds quit in one year

it's even worse when they pull that and then abuse scheduling to not overwork people in one week. I've had a 12 days of work in a row because of training shifts and abuse of the scheduling systems that were in place.

Having worked for a game retail store as a manager during Xmas for 9 years working 60 hour weeks was not uncommon. Shitty base hours. Pressure from regional managers. The need to tow the line... I don’t work there any more.

That's the age old defense right? "They didn't have to work those hours" But who in their right mind with any level of decency wouldn't feel that obligation when they know their co-workers will e crushed under the weight of work without you.

Management: "Well, they're not FORCED to work those hours! We don't have a gun to anyone's head!" Employees: "So, I won't be fired if I refuse to take a fourth straight week of overtime?" Management:pic.twitter.com/942pTsKW2n

Boss: *holding the gun of unemployment to my head* "You don't have to come in for the next ten days straight, but the team would suffer if you didn't." Me: "Well, I really need time off-" Boss: *cocks gun* "Yup. The team. *Presses muzzle into my temple* They'd suffer."

This is what I'm dealing with right now. We were told "all eyes are on your team" at the start of the project. Now they are refusing to pay overtime to get it done in the absurd timelines they set. If it fails it's still our fault.

Here here. I just quit a retail job I worked at for years. One manager just kept turning up the pressure. At the end he straight up questioned my manhood because I couldn't keep pace with all the work they were dumping on a shrinking crew.
