Sick to fuck of songs whose lyrics are just nonsense bragging about wealth & lifestyle. Fuck that noise. Gimme pop songs about love, life, passion, struggles, joy, the experience of life... not some shite about diamonds & dollars. Utter soulless shite all over the radio nowadays.pic.twitter.com/lCu598mg5z

It's actually depressing. The 80s and 90s had their fair share of shite music but there was at least a balance of amazing pop music too. Where are the 2010's Madonna, Tears For Fears, Public Enemy, Duran Duran, NWA, Bowie.... the people who actually put heart & soul into lyrics.

I hear what you're saying. I think a lot of that comes out of hip hop culture which itself grew out of systematically oppressed people. Bragging about wealth is a way to transcend that culture and became part of the art form. But for me, out of context, it does GET OLD

I'd never claim to understand another culture's drive, maybe I'm just old but the hip hop in the 90s felt really passionate & angry & full of youthful energy. The poppy hip hop stuff now just feels so clinical & controlled & cynical & by committee. Bleh. Feel the same about rock

There's loads of great lyrical hip hop, you just have to look beyond the most popular stuff Although even then you get artists like Kendrick Lamar who are popular and also great
