Real talk:
When a musician or artist changes their style, 99% of the time they weren't enjoying their old style anymore.
When you complain & nag them to go backwards you are asking them to make something that would be half hearted and therefore it'd likely just disappoint you

You dont have to be along for the ride. But they grew tired of the party and wanted to go somewhere else. Im not gonna lie, there have been a few bands that I wish would revisit their roots. Back when Otep made Hydra, i left a comment saying I didnt care for the new direction.

She replied basically saying it was unfortunate. She continued making albums and I stopped buying them... We agreed to disagree and moved on with our lives. My opinion meant very little when it came to her personal interests. Accept the change or move on. Its just that simple.

We can offer constructive criticism. Such as, Jonathan, I feel your music has become more monotone and it all sounds the same, especially when compared to your Disney covers. What he does with that is up to him. If the artist doesnt enjoy his work, it'll show in the production.

it is because of comments like this that a tension is created between artist and fans in the first place, where artists stop caring because they see that when they try to really express themselves, it's met with a negative response that is thinly veiled as constructive criticism

I sometimes get the same 'Your stuff all sounds the same now compared to 2014' even though genre, style & sound-wise it's objectively false & it's just as varied as ever. Just makes me think the person judged & whined after listening to 2 or 3 songs out of hundreds.
