I mean could anyone out there even conceive of a song that sounds more deliberately, cynically 'current' and '2018' than this lol https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJOTlE1K90k …

(I don't think it's a bad song BTW, it's well written & well produced. It's just kinda hilarious that he uses this as an example of something that won't sound dated in 10 years)

Metal/hardcore ftw. Certainly not mainstream, though.

I am forever grateful that I found my sister's Metallica album in 3rd grade. It kept me from getting sucked into terrible pop rock stuff as a transition from the 'parent safe' music of the Beatles, etc.

Hell yeah, people don't explore music nearly as much as they used to; maybe the old days were better. I think streaming services should be encouraging more diverse listening but theyre too focused on being well reviewed that they don't risk showing anyone anything new.

There is more high quality rock and metal nowadays than ever before, I’m convinced of it. Most of it I have found on Bandcamp. People who think that rock or metal is dead are just... not looking I guess?

Bandcamp, spotify, patreon, youtube, soundcloud; they're all so good for finding bands that aren't promoted by mainstream labels but i feel the algorithms push people to never branch out and only listen to the same thing on repeat.
