probably the last true 'epic' films ever made and thats epic as in actually mostly shot on location with 1000s of extras live horses 1000s of props and huge sets and mintures! sure cgi aided everything but never took over... then the hobbit films came along and it was cgi fest

I'm pleasantly surprised by how well even many of the visual effects have aged. Some noticeable things here and there, like the cave troll in Fellowship. But for the most part, a lot of the visual effects still look damn good.
