Absolutely. Also, this ignores the fact that bands tend to be well rehearsed with their own tunes whereas it's very common for classical orchestras to get very little practice time so have to be expert sight readers. The skill is different, not better.

Man, when it comes to classical solo performers though? A lot of organists that do recitals will play an hour of hugely difficult, complex, ten minute long pieces ALL BY MEMORY.

As a classical musician who's also played in metal bands though, I will say most metal is rather simpler than classical and a LOT easier to memorize. I absolutely adore both genres though.
