Guys, pro tip: If you want to use someone's lyrics in a book/video/story etc, don't message them saying 'Can I use your lyrics in my thing' - send them a proper message with an outline of the work you're doing, the themes & vibe and the context in which you want to use the lyrics

Yup. A common misconception about copyright law is that it's there to give "credit" to the creator. In actuality it's about giving MONEY to the creator. So if your not making any money then there really is no point in asking for permission. (Other than politeness of course)
