👋, happy to jam! When started ~8 yrs ago, our thesis was #futureofwork bc we saw work as soil for new tech; think consumer-ization of IT, blurring btwn personal & professional, etc.
In 2021, the phrase is ubiquitous. So here's what we mean & what we invest in! ⬇️

1⃣ All knowledge workers will work more like software developers, automating routine parts of jobs w/ low-code/no-code tools. We'll also rely on better software tools for thought, esp. ones changing how we interact w/ computers.

2⃣Software developers will be able to work at higher layers of abstraction, and software development will become even more data-driven.

3⃣We'll need new ways to collaborate, esp. as work becomes increasingly online, remote, distributed, & global. 2020 was a watershed moment, & it's likely most of knowledge work will be permanently hybrid.

4⃣Machine intelligence will be like electricity -- cheap, convenient, and on-demand. There are many low-hanging fruit applications -- from content creation, search, process discovery -- that are ripe for dramatic improvements.

5/ The individual employee will have more agency and optionality when it comes to professional development and economic liberty.
The tools and resources that were once reserved for executives will be accessible by all knowledge workers, unlocking so much more potential.

6/ Machine intelligence, again, because its applications cross all the areas we care about. It will transform every industry and every function -- from HR and engineering to research and customer support.

7/ But the future of work is MUCH more than knowledge work. Silicon Valley cos may have been founded on bits, but most other cos were founded on atoms. So we see a big part of the future of work as applying tech to older industries.

8/ Speaking of atoms, we live in a physical world. Unlocking more human potential means building more intelligent machines. Industrial automation in more visible places. I'm w/ here: Build More Robots.

9/ The joy of being a VC is having opportunities to meet exceptional founders daring to dream big.
They can 100% have enormous impact by building B2B software, *but* we also see so many other ways to transform work.
