Monday night soccer update - Wooooo-eeeeeee, now *that* was a spicy meatball of a game. Playoffs, only one of our offensive players showed up, and we went down early 2-0. Got one back in the second half, then one of our fill-in players almost started a brawl.

He got fouled hard (was definitely going to be a yellow, possible red), and he decided the appropriate response was to spit in the other guy’s face (he’s a hothead and not one of our normal players). Insults are yelled, shit is talked, both are sent off. We end up losing 3-1.

After the game, I notice our guys are mobbing up around him on the walk out, and I ask jokingly if were escorting him to his car. The answer is a dead serious “yes.” We get to the stadium entrance and the other team is waiting about thirty feet away by the parking structure.

It’s obvious at this point that they’re going to try something stupid. League coordinator goes out to talk to them. They don’t leave. Ref goes out to talk to them. They don’t leave. Ref asks me for my phone to call the cops. I call out to them that no one wants the cops coming.

Couple of their guys come over, full of bluster, and I’m like, “Guys, you won. It’s just a game. No one’s getting paid. Yeah, it was a dick move, but life’s too short as it is. Take the win.” Eventually able to de-escalate the situation and get them headed back to their cars.

Our guy hops in the car our coach pulled around after they dispersed and takes off. No cops, no beatings, no one going to jail. This league continues to be the most glorious train wreck ever.

(I’m not sure if the first rounds of playoffs are best of two, but if they are, oh boy is next week going to be exciting. I can’t wait)

LOL, I have to think that there is some shit talked and some unsavory things that go down between the whistles in an NFL game, BUT, at the end of the day (most) everyone realizes that it's a job and you might be on the same team as that a-hole someday soon.
