BTW, the Freenode reference: banning mentions of other IRC servers, even "we're both here and there" in the channel topic, is what made people finally say "okay we're only there."

Inspired by the Reagan graphs, here's a graph of IRC users by network so far this year, with an indication of when Andrew Lee took administrative control of Freenode: twitter.com/WardQNormal/st…

A graph entitled "top 10 networks of year 2021 - users". On the X axis are months in 2021, and the Y axis goes from zero to about 120K. Ten networks are shown in different colors. Until about mid-May, eight of the networks were steadily below 30K, Freenode was around 80-90K, and Libera.Chat didn't yet exist. Around mid-May, Freenode starts to drop rapidly, reaching 60K by June 1, 50K a few days ago, and falling even further to under 15K by today. Also at the same time, Libera.Chat shows up and grows steadily until it's past 30K, roughly paralleling the drop in Freenode users. There is also a slight gain in OFTC users and a slighty drop in UnderNet users; all other networks remain steady. The graph is overlaid with an image of Andrew Lee's smiling face, with an arrow pointing to the beginning of the sharp drop in Freenode users and the first day of Libera.

Man goes to doctor. Says he is CEO of AI startup but has no idea how to become profitable. Doctor says solution is simple. Advanced model GPT-4 is in town. Ask it how to profit, and it will surely know the answer. Man bursts into tears. “But doctor” he says “you are GPT-4”

Please feel free to sound off in the comments about my dumbest suspensions — I'm sure I've forgotten half of them. My favourite: Facebook boosted one of my posts without asking me, to show what I'd get if I paid to advertise. Then they suspended me for violating their ad policy.

In case you're moving to the Site That Shall Not Be Named On Twitter (apparently), I have my Mastodon address in my bio (also, tools like MoveToDon and Debirdify are very helpful for finding your favorite tweeps elsewhere).

After 2 full rehearsals and 3 concerts (each with a small rehearsal beforehand) last week, I now have our choral repertoire running through my head basically nonstop when I no longer need to know it.

Last concert spam you'll se from me this year; we're singing at 4 this afternoon in Healdsburg!

The benefit of AAA membership they don't advertise is that all the messages they send begin with a scream and it makes me giggle every time: "AAA Highlights".

For months, I've been working on an oral history of the time six pediatricians swallowed Lego heads but only five pooped them out—or so it would seem. Here, at last, are their stories 🫡 defector.com/an-oral-histor

per the complaint: the claim that the mac & cheese will be ready in 3½ minutes is false & misleading. by the time you remove the lid, add water, microwave 3½ minutes, & stir, it's impossible for the mac & cheese to be ready in just 3½ minutes total.
