You can shorten it, but
@googlechrome recognizes "127.0.0.1" as an address and browses to http://127.0.0.1 while if you type "127.1" it does a web search :P -
That’s why you need to type in the http. Also, this works pretty much anywhere. ftp, ping, wget, netcat etc.
