There is a way for them to avoid having their mugshots posted and printed. Tough shit.

I get it and that's what I'd tell my kid. But I think papers should be a bit judicious about picturing people who haven't been convicted. Felony mugshots? Fine.
-
Ethically speaking, the journalist has a responsibility to minimize harm in their reporting. A misdemeanor charge for a minor doesn’t seem like it needs such penalization from the media

A news paper in southern Mississippi recently decided to limit their crime reporting. This is the editor's explanation for why:https://www.sunherald.com/opinion/article223016770.html …

Yet you share the article, circulating said mugshots even further with your own following now checking out the mid-due process shots of possibly innocent people. I guess you are stuck between a rock and a hard place with social media and how links attach a photo...

That gave me a bit of a hang-up about sharing it to, but I wanted to criticize it. Twitter really needs a way to suppress the preview image.

100% agree.

Now, because Mike decided to share the article in question, he was able to add an additonal 1,897 accounts that now can view the mugshots on just Twitter alone. I wouldn't be so critical if the entire point of your Tweet was negated by sharing the post. *Screen Shots*, Mike.pic.twitter.com/G0dHNGOYFB

Well, the
@sunjournal still has the option of taking it down and then it won’t show up in quote tweets either.

I'd argue that no-one should have their face splashed across the paper for an unproven allegation. Feels like an invasion of privacy to me. Not to mention the fact that it reinforces peoples' racial biases (see: LePage binder)

Right. The mugshots will stay with these young women forever, regardless of the outcome of the charges. They will show up in Google searches, background checks, and may affect these women’s ability to find work. Bad call.

Agreed!

I think one has to put it in the context of this -https://www.pressherald.com/2019/01/03/six-men-fined-for-roles-in-underage-drinking-that-led-to-womans-death-in-orono/ …

It should be a slow weekend for off-campus partying in the UMaine System. NOTE THAT

probably not with the high profile guilty pleas resulting from the underage drinking parties, that led to a high profile death yesterday, it isn't surprising

In which case it probably doesn't demand a chastisement tweet....with the mugshot treatment.
