It's so weird to me that it's the AI Ethics crowd getting constantly bashed for "fear mongering" because we describe systemic racism, while AI Safety people are literally saying we're all gonna die from AI...

the american devotion to free speech is a mile deep when it comes to things like inciting genocide, but it’s a layer of paint when it comes to say “teaching kids a factual history of slavery” or “letting chinese people run a communications company”

There is a glorious terribleness it - a banality that will not be denied but must stand up and be heard. Like if Cotton Mather got Chat-GPT to write an essay he could declaim on the theme of 'since the beginning of time man has wondered what is tolerance' before accusing a witch.

Educacioun ys about helping people fynde the power to chaunge the worlde and to lyve the good lyfe that thei choose. Educacioun, to quote Freire and hooks, ys the 'practice of freedom.' To make educacioun all about 'workforce' and 'economy' ys an insult to the human soul.

Reality: the vast majority of mass killings tracked by the in the US in the last decade have been committed by right-wing extremists.

Your typical phone/tablet/computer has so much going on that it is a complex system.
Every change in such a system can lead to unexpected disruption.
It therefore seems more respectful to put the end-user in charge of when they face such a disruption.

Elon Musk is the same guy who was dismissive of an *actual* assassination attempt on Pelosi’s husband and used the platform to promote conspiracy theory about it, right?
Just checking.

Does anyone actually dispose of a printer cartridge bc the printer says it's empty? Wait until the print goes bad; shake the cartridge up; wait until the print goes bad a second time. Gets you 100-500 more prints. (Worked for one of the first laser printer companies.)

How honest is your printer? @andreas_bastian ran a CT scan of an "empty" toner cartridge and found that it's still got lots of toner left. The big surprise is that a new cartridge turns out to have only a little more toner than the empty one!

Elon Musk told by the EU that Twitter will be banned from Europe unless they censor more disinformation, be more careful in bringing back banned accounts, and undergo an audit.
Will any American politicians speak up about foreigners forcing a US company to engage in censorship?

Why would they fix? Playing to grievance is a much better political strategy than actually addressing the grievances. If they addressed any real issues, their base would dry up pretty quickly. twitter.com/jamesbritt/sta

So that's what 's providing satellite Internet service to Ukraine was really about: getting a chunk of the DoD money that's buying weapons for Ukraine. Can't say I'm surprised. Class act, dude.

Since I discovered prompt injection, I owe you all a thread on how to fix it.
TLDR: Don’t use instruction-tuned models in production on untrusted input. Either write k-shot prompt for a non-instruct model, or create your own fine-tune.
Here’s how.
