We are treated fairly. They can't change their business model over night. Lots of steps. Step 1, deactivate all drivers and only hire about a quarter of the previously active drivers.

In a cruel and petulant move, union-puppet
@LorenaAD80@LorenaSGonzalez & CA@AssemblyDems on January 1, 2020 shut down independent contractors in California. They still refuse to#RepealAB5 > millions unemployed & without access — in the middle of a#pandemic and a#recession. -
Uber shut down on a whim. Sacked it's workforce leaving them with bills that can't be paid and nowhere to go? This is why ab5 is important. Uber are laughing at their drivers and the drivers don't have a leg to stand on.

Maybe CA should have written a better bill that didn’t impact millions of freelancers in the process?
-
Freelancers aside, these companies were the *intended targets*. This was the point. Uber chose to stop operating rather than treat its employees like employees.

I am shocked that a company that exists to skirt regulations is running away from regulation. Next you're gonna tell me that Air BnB might not be good
-
Airbnb does try to skirt regs but the homeowners set their own prices. That's the big difference in my view. If Uber wants to pretend drivers are independent, then they should have pricing power and Uber just gets a referral percentage
