L.A. is done with superficial fixes to homelessness. We have an opportunity to build the supportive housing that actually works, and we need to make that happen.

Thank you to the scores of people who attended the Open House Wed night on the Venice Blvd Great Streets project. Neighbors gave feedback both positive and critical and made suggestions for improvements.

Los Angeles is making our streets safer for our school children and pedestrians one intersection at a time. Today we installed a new crosswalk and then all-way stop sign near Playa Vista Elementary School.

Students at campuses around the 11th District participated in , demanding long overdue commonsense gun control. There is a movement growing in this country. It is young, fierce, muscular, determined and impatient — and it will prevail.

Are tens of thousands of Angelenos homeless by choice? Yes - our choice. We must provide immediate and genuine options for housing and shelter. Unless and until we do, we will remain a city of sidewalk encampments in every neighborhood. My OpEd:

92 LAFD firefighters hiked two miles to inaccessible terrain to extinguish a brushfire in Pacific Palisades. We’re so fortunate to have a world class fire department with firefighters who stop at nothing to protect lives and property.

Our announcement today to build homeless housing was more than a pledge. Homeless Committee today approved funding for projects in 9 council districts, including 156 units of PSH in my district, in West LA and in Brentwood.

It’s either all hands on deck, or this ship is going to sink under the weight of the homelessness crisis. This AM, we announced that every council district will provide a minimum of 222 units of permanent supportive housing for homeless people homelessness in the next 3 years.

We can’t wait for permanent supportive housing. We need genuine alternatives to sidewalk encampments. and I are pushing the to treat this crisis as we would any other state of emergency — by providing shelter and crisis housing now, not years from now.

If opponents of gun control feel so strongly that we need to focus instead on mental health, why do so damn many of them support gutting healthcare coverage for millions of people?
