What the fuck. I can't attach to TEXTEDIT because of system integrity protection? Bunch of clowns.

@mikeash can't even dtrace most standard binaries, either.

@milend @mikeash look, that’s the entire point of the thing. you can turn it off.

@millenomi @milend I thought the entire point of the thing was to protect important system binaries.

@mikeash @milend the point of the thing is to prevent software to do damage to the system where a user gave their admin password.

@mikeash @milend this includes attaching to processes.

@millenomi @milend So why can I attach to all the non-Apple processes I want?

@mikeash @milend that sounds like a fine bug to file.

@millenomi @milend Really? It's clear that this is intentional.

@mikeash you may be able to copy TextEdit to your Desktop and attach to a running instance of it, if SIP is still broken in this way

      2. mikeash ‏@mikeash 8 Dec 2015

@Zorg__ Heh, wow, I never thought that would work. Thanks.

      3. Mayur Pawashe ‏@Zorg__ 8 Dec 2015

@mikeash if I recall it doesn’t work for all apps. Might want to consider it a temporary workaround!

@Zorg__ Still, a good tool to have available.

@spinicist And no, I don't like Apple. I like a lot of what they do, but liking Apple was doomed the moment the iPhone happened.

@mikeash the ominous wording when you disable SIP seems quite worrying: "… is an unsupported configuration, likely to break in the future…".

@mikeash @ameaijou they’re clowns because you can’t be bothered to disable sip? I can see your big floppy shoes from here!

      2. mikeash ‏@mikeash 10 Dec 2015

@jimmyjamesuk123 @ameaijou Because there's no reason for SIP to extend to TextEdit.

@mikeash @ameaijou because userland apps are safe obviously.

@mikeash I thought you can’t attach to anything because of it, no? Had to disable it to get F-Script injection to work.

@fzwob Works fine for non-Apple stuff.

@mikeash Ah, didn’t try that. I can tell you it didn’t work for attaching to Xcode without Xcode.
