Google, a private company, is doing a better job of open access to their research than "non-profit" universities.
Why can I openly access all of Google's AI research papers but not all of the academic ones from publicly funded universities?

This is completely backwards, and fuels beliefs that private companies are better at research innovation than publicly funded research.

My guess: public u is underfunded looking to get by through xtra charges. Google does just fine. Solution: Gov needs an ad-tech arm.
