They represented future street intersections. Before Central Park existed, this one sat at the corner of what would’ve been 63rd and 6th. It’s one of the only bolts that still exists, and it’s hiding in plain sight. So, there’s your nerdy NYC infrastructure trivia for the day🤓

Went on a hike in the park today to find this little iron bolt. It doesn’t look like much, but it’s actually an important piece of NYC history. Circa 1811, a surveyor named John Randel Jr. formed what would become Manhattan’s grid by hammering these bolts into the ground.

Louie was the first celeb I interviewed in college. I remember only that he was way too generous with his time, considering, and left me a hilarious voicemail (“Mike! It’s LOUIE!”) as if we were old pals that I immediately played for all my friends
