    Chris Marshall is a properly solid and fair-minded reporter, the kind of journalist any mature democratic society needs in droves. So what kind of Scotland are we going to have with fewer Chris Marshalls on our indigenous national titles? We should all be thinking about that.

    The person who wrote this isn’t a doctor, and these aren’t the “old days”. I’m sure you mean well, but reinforcing tired stereotypes like this doesn’t help people who are ill in 2019, or educate folk about how serious thyroid disorders can be.

    In the "old days" doctors could diagnose hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism by looking at the face, checking the pulse and checking their reflexes but these days they only go by the blood tests which are often at odds with symptoms. So, yes, the face can be a tell sometimes.

    Disappointingly, I don't have an answer from , or to my question of what someone with a thyroid problem “looks like”. Would you say a person “looks like” they have diabetes, or M.E, or asthma, or any other invisible chronic illness?
