Making a product that’s “dramatically better” than the competition only works if “better” means dramatically more progress for the user.

Too often we think making a "better product" means nicer UI, more features, etc What makes a product better? A better outcome for the user.

nicer ui can mean faster results for the user, which in turn means more progress in a fixed amount of time :)

yes - but only useful if users value that progress enough to switch. The “allegiance to the present solution” is really strong.
