Open protocols will, invariably, depend on centralized aggregators, networks, access points. Email needed Hotmail, Gmail. The web needed Yahoo, Google. Crypto needed Coinbase, Cash App. Podcasts needed iTunes, Spotify. RSS needed Google Reader.

However, the healthiest ecosystems all have multiple providers: Multiple web browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari) Multiple podcast apps (Apple Podcasts, Spotify,

Video is an example of a content type that never really had an open protocol. The result? Video is almost completely centralized on YouTube. Open protocols (email, RSS) give individual creators a lot more leverage because they have a direct connection with subscribers.

Since you know that Podcasts are just RSS feeds for aufio files, what do you think is missing to make Video-casting decentralized? Cost is still very high, even with BunnyCDN et al for hobbyist creators.

Video in RSS has been a thing for a long time (Apple Podcasts still supports it!) YouTube was just able to eschew it and centralize distribution better than Apple did.pic.twitter.com/9tsB6ZrJPm
