If you look at the most funded companies on Republic, there's nothing really that sticks out. I can see it being successful for community-driven companies (to give people a piece of the cake), but maybe Gumroad & Backstage will be able to make returns for unaccredited investors

Man I don't know anything about gumroad or their founders or their financial situation, but for private parties, investing directly in individual startups is a straight up suicide mission. That is a great way to lose your money.

Didn't gumroad already burn all their VC investors? I thought they raised a bundle initially and everybody who invested got smoked.
