I think, as bootstrappers, we need to abandon the "long slow SaaS ramp of death" trope.
1. That talk is nearly 20 years old (lots has changed)
2. I'm not sure it ever really applied to most successful bootstrapped businesses?
3. For many SaaS I know, the ramp was pretty fast.

Oops, misread that. It's actually 495 days to hit $100k ARR
-
Yeah, that's a while. This is also only measuring the ones that survive that long. Many many many didn't make it 495 days.

I wonder what
@Shpigford's starting point is there. Does the clock start at $0.01 MRR? Or at the point the founders actually start working on their business? Also, the median would be *much* more interesting here than the mean. -
Starts at the first cent. However the data has bias towards companies that *ever* make it to that point. Meaning businesses that fail or just simply never get to $10k wouldn’t factor in…which is probably a *lot* of businesses.

I guess saying we should abandon something because some people use it as an excuse feels a bit dramatic. Like saying “people default to freemium and it doesn’t work for most so our industry should abandon it.” But freemium works wonders for those who know how to use it.

$100K ARR in 495 days is not enough revenue for 2 founders with families and mortgages. However, $1M in ARR certainly is (half of that would be). That means it's more like 2 years. Not fast IMO, but fast enough.
