“Many devs make bad customers.” Every group has bad customers. I’m not convinced that devs are over-represented here. (So far, I’ve found devs to be some of my best customers, the easiest to serve, and the most helpful with feedback)

I think this is true. I had a very small following when I launched my vim product and I’ve made $13k in a bit over a month. I think it’s so true that I’m building my next product in this space so other devs can sell their programming knowledge too. Love this customer base

While it’s a great market, but selling to developers is incredibly hard. Devs buy outcomes first, hate ads, allergic to marketing BS. Only devs can sell to devs. Its the biggest tribe on auto pilot growth by supporting each other on forums like HN, Stack-overflow, Open Source.

Know and love the dev market deeply. Interesting points, though “willingness to pay” isn’t as high as you may think, broadly speaking. Devs want “try before you buy” so they can run their BS sniff test on everything first (inspecting things in devtools haha).

But hands down the most loyal customers with the greatest insights and feedback around! Maintaining something OSS? Even better - developers want to better the ecosystem for everyone more than any other industry I’ve been a part of/seen into.
