But… if memberships worked in that way, why wouldn’t they apply it to all the creators they have on Insta, FB, WhatsApp?

1/ Because the creators are advertisers that feed the ad-engine. So creators on insta aren't creating interesting long-form content - most are using it to advertise their services, which when large enough, brands become their sponsors and users then buy those brands.

2/ Clubhouse is about longer-form, in the moment, content. Its adjacent to podcasts & substack to me and should monetize in the same way: subscription or one-times pay walls.
